Sustainability
Our commitment to people, safety, community and the environment guides every step of our work.
At Proman GPO, sustainability is part of everything we do. From plant design and construction to how we work with people and care for the environment, we operate with one clear purpose: to build a plant that delivers lasting value for Mexico’s agriculture, communities and ecosystem.
We are guided by international principles such as the International Finance Corporation Performance Standards, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Common Approaches, Equator Principles, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, ensuring integrity and responsibility in everything we do.

Putting people and safety first
The health and safety of our people, contractors, and communities come first. We apply Proman’s rigorous Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) standards, developed over 40 years of safe operations worldwide. The plant design includes multiple independent layers of protection, automated safety systems and continuous monitoring that meet international requirements for the safe design, construction and operation of world-class facilities.
In Mexico, the project has been authorised and endorsed by the institutions responsible for regulating environmental and industrial compliance including the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT), the Safety, Energy and Environment Agency (ASEA), the Secretariat of Labour and Social Welfare (STPS), Civil Protection, the Federal Commission for the Protection Against Sanitary Risks (COFEPRIS), and the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT). We have met all requirements set by these authorities throughout the design, construction and future operation of the plant.
Every person working with us receives thorough training and shares responsibility for maintaining a strong culture of safety at every stage of the project. Read more about our HSEE Policy.
Investing in people and communities
Proman is committed to building long-term, sustainable relationships with the local communities in which we operate. For more than 10 years, Proman GPO has been improving the quality of life in the communities surrounding the site and delivering community programmes to support various social support services.
Through our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee, we invest in social actions that promote sustainable development, transparency and support for the people and communities around the site, including health, education, the environment, infrastructure, economic development, culture, sports, food security, and community relations across Sinaloa.
Our programmes include scholarships for students, cultural preservation, support for fishermen, medical care, and improvements to public spaces, all designed to build opportunity and connection across the region. Read more about our Human Rights Policy.
Partnering with the community
Proman GPO invites community organisations, schools, and local groups to propose projects that create positive social or environmental impact. Whether focused on education, health, infrastructure, or environmental protection, we want to collaborate on initiatives that strengthen our communities. Caring for our environment
Proman GPO is committed to responsible environmental management and to restoring the biodiversity of the Santa María–Topolobampo–Ohuira lagoon system. We are investing in the recovery of Topolobampo Bay and leading projects that protect its ecosystems and benefit future generations.
Working with experts from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the Centre for Food Research and Development (CIAD), the Interdisciplinary Research Centre for Regional Development (CIIDIR) and independent environmental consultants, we have developed programmes that follow Mexican law and international frameworks including the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Performance Standards, the Equator Principles, and guidelines from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
Our actions focus on reforesting mangroves, monitoring air and water quality, restocking shrimp, and conserving wildlife to achieve a net gain in biodiversity. These efforts are coordinated with federal, state and local authorities, and have been approved by Comisión Nacional de Áreas Naturales Protegidas (CONANP) and Secretaría del Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (SEMARNAT) and audited by Registro Italiano Navale (RINA), Environmental Resources Management (ERM), and Golder Associates.
Through these partnerships, Proman GPO is ensuring maintenance of water quality, healthier habitats, and stronger natural ecosystems, protecting species such as black iguanas and sea turtles while supporting the long-term vitality of the region. Read more about our CO₂ emissions data.
