Proman’s global footprint
Proman is a global leader in methanol, fertilizer and other natural gas derived products. Headquartered in Switzerland, with assets in the United States, Trinidad and Oman, and ongoing expansion into Mexico and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Proman is the largest aggregated methanol and ammonia producer in the world and has extensive experience in petrochemical plant operations, petrochemical and power plant construction, product marketing and logistics, and project management. Proman is committed to developing low-carbon and green methanol and ammonia as cleaner alternatives to fossil fuels, offering a pathway to drastically cutting emissions in a range of sectors including transport, power and industry.
Across its operations, Proman applies the same commitment to safety, reliability, and sustainability that underpins Proman GPO. With over 40 years of global experience, Proman provides GPO with proven engineering, construction, and operational expertise, ensuring that the Topolobampo plant meets world-class standards in efficiency and environmental care. The facility is being built with automated safety controls, energy-efficient processes, and low-emission technology to ensure minimal environmental impact.
At our facilities in Trinidad, carbon dioxide that is generated during ammonia production is captured and reused in the manufacture of methanol and urea, helping reduce emissions and improve resource efficiency. This approach informs how Proman GPO is planning and developing its environmental management approach in Mexico, including future opportunities for efficiency and circular practices once the plant is operational.
Proman GPO is backed by Proman, a top ten global nitrogen fertilizer producer with three ammonia plants and 1.9 million tonnes of annual capacity. This experience strengthens our work to support Mexico’s farmers and fertilizer supply.
Strong partnerships in Mexico
Proman GPO collaborates with CFE, CFEenergía and PEMEX to ensure reliable access to natural gas and essential industrial infrastructure. These partnerships strengthen Mexico’s petrochemical value chain and demonstrate how public and private collaboration can deliver sustainable, long-term benefits for the country. We also work with local suppliers and contractors, building capacity, transferring knowledge, and generating opportunities that support regional development.
Non-Technical Summary – Ammonia Plant Project
Topolobampo, Mexico
The 2,200 TPD Ammonia Plant Project in Topolobampo, Sinaloa, is a large-scale facility designed to produce and supply ammonia to regional and international markets via road and marine transport.
The project includes an integrated production plant, supported by pipelines, water systems, a natural gas metering station, and dedicated loading facilities, alongside a training centre and site access infrastructure. It is further supported by third-party assets, including a PEMEX-operated jetty and a Comisión Federal de Electricidad gas pipeline.
Ongoing design updates have focused on improving safety, efficiency, and environmental performance, with enhancements to pipelines, power systems, water treatment, storage, and key plant components.
